The 2023-2024 Primary One Interviews for Direct Subsidiary Scheme Schools and Private Schools are ongoing. We were grateful to have hosted experienced admissions expert, 趙 Sir, on the 27th of August 2022. 趙Sir gave an insightful seminar about primary one interviews for Direct Subsidiary Scheme Schools and Private Schools. We have received great feedback and now we are all more aware of the admissions process. We would like to extend our thanks to 趙Sir for his continuous support and for our parents’ participation.

29th Kowloon City District School Outstanding Parents!

The Federation of Parent-Teacher Association, Kowloon City District held the 29th Kowloon City District School Outstanding Parents Commendiation Ceremony on 13th August 2022 at PLK Lam Man Chan English Primary School. We are proud to announce that three of our parents received awards, they are the parents of Yeung Yat Yin Victor, Ho Leong Kwan, Hui Chun Lok Bevis. Congratualtions!

Raffle Ticket Sales 2022

Our 87th KLN HBH actively raised money in the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association Raffle Ticket Sales 2022. Our school was awarded First Place in raffle ticket sales among all Happy Bee teams in Hong Kong and Second Place in the Kowloon City District. We would like to thank our parents for their tremendous support. Special thanks to Chung Derek Cheuk Hei, Leung Ka Hei Anna, and Hui Chun Lok Bevis who was are highest seller of flags.We are proud to announce that our Principal received a certificate of Appreication from the Hong Kong Girl Guides Association on behalf of everyone at our school.

Drum Corps and Little Trout Children’s Choir Performance

We are very proud of our St. Nicholas’ Drum Corps and Little Trout Children’s Choir for their wonderful performance at the Child Psychoecology Foundation: Music to Connect Charity Concert. We would like to extend a special thanks to Vincent Law, Founder of Child Psychoecology Foundation and the whole Child Psychoecology Foundation team for holding the event!

BallroomBees dancing classes

A big thank you to BallroomBees! Our students had an amazing time with you on the 16th of July. If you are interested in introducing the wonderful world of ballroom dancing to your child, then we are very excited to announce we will be partnering with BallroomBees this upcoming year where they will be conducting in-school interest classes. Classes are now open to L2 and U3 students. We welcome all parents to apply! Please check the upcoming notice (19th of August) for more information on how to apply.

Congratulations to our alumni for graduating from our partnership schools

Our partnership schools Alliance Primary School, Whampoa, Kowloon Tong Bishop Walsh Catholic School and Stewards Pooi Kei Primary School, cordially invited our Principal, Mrs. Choi and Vice-Principal Ms. Chiu to attend their graduation ceremonies. It was truly wonderful to see so many of our alumni (Yeung Shing Lam, graduated from Stewards Pooi Kei Primary School, Liu Tsz Him and Li Ling Yan, graduated from Alliance Primary School, Whampoa, Jayden Pong and Tang Tsz Kiu, graduated from Kowloon Tong Bishop Walsh Catholic School) from St. Nicholas’ and to be able to share their momentous achievements. We would like to wish them all a promising future and every success as they start their journey in secondary school. Congratulations!

2021-2022 Open Day is around the corner!

As the weather forecast says that the weather is expected to remain unsettled till next week, the Open Day (originally scheduled Our rescheduled Open Day is around the corner, which will be held this Saturday, 16th July 2022 at 10:00 a.m. We will hold an Art Exhibition to display students’ artworks over the past year. We will launch an art workshop for students to experience the fun of art creation and develop their creativity. We will also have various booths, such as food booths and educational game booths. Look forward to meeting you on that day!

N1 Admissions Open Now for 2023 – 2024

Founded in 1971, St. Nicholas’ English Kindergarten has been providing a child-centered, Montessori-inspired education in a tri-lingual learning environment for over half a century. St. Nicholas’ welcomes 2023-2024 N1 applications (equivalent to K1) from parents of children born between 1st August 2019 and 31st December 2020. The N1 admission is NOW open for application. 幼兒發脾氣點算好?6招助幼兒控制情緒

「喜怒哀樂」 是每個人都有情緒,幼兒也不例外。疫情下,父母在家工作,長時間與子女相處,自然也會面對

的一刻。我們要明白孩子能夠表達憤怒的情緒,對孩子發展自主性極為重要。當孩子踏入幼兒期時(約 2 至 3 歲),當中的發展危機(Developmental Crisis) 正是「自主性發展」和「羞恥及懷疑」(Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt)。我們應該處理的,是孩子因情緒而作出的行為,而非禁止、甚至否定孩子的情緒。要協助
幼兒控制情緒
,可參考以下六招。
 
模仿父母表達憤怒
 
另外,憤怒是一種常見的情緒,不但
幼兒發脾氣
,父母也有。當孩子嘗試表達其憤怒的情緒時,他們會以父母為一個模仿的對象。當父母對孩子憤怒,或父母之間爭吵等,孩子會以此等行為作為表達及控制情緒的重要參考(Bandura, 1977)。父母之間的爭吵、惡意嘲諷、甚至暴力,都會提升孩子對憤怒的敏感性,並干擾了孩子的正常發展(Cummings, Pellegrini, Notarius, & Cummings, 1989)。因此,想減少

,協助父母得先留意自己的相處之道。

還有甚麼方法可以協助
幼兒控制情緒
和減少憤怒的強度呢?Berkowitz 及 Thompson 有以下建議(Berkowitz, 1973; Thompson, 1990):
 
 
忽略有冒犯性的行為:

幼兒發脾氣
的行為目的是希望得到某樣特定物件(如玩具),父母不應因為孩子的行為而給予滿足,也不需要因其行為而給予責罰,只需要不作回應便可以了。
 
情緒角的使用:
在家中設一安靜、沒有任何刺激或吸引的地方,作為讓孩子安靜的區域,當
幼兒發脾氣
,或作出不恰當行為後,可以安排孩子在情緒角安靜一下。這未必等如責備,而是讓孩子的情緒可以舒緩,情況就如便急需要上廁所一樣,這只是一個正常的需要。如果運用恰當,當孩子日後有情緒時,可能自然的就會跑到情緒角去舒緩一下,有助
幼兒控制情緒

 
喚醒與憤怒不相容的情緒,特別如對受害者的同情心;
 
減少接觸可能會觸動
幼兒發脾氣
的情況或事物:當孩子未完全建立一個自我控制的能力前,減少
幼兒發脾氣
的機會,也即等同減少了父母與子女之間的衝突;
 
 
解釋其行為的後果;
 
審視引起
幼兒發脾氣
的起因。

上述的方案,針對不同的情況,如孩子因憤怒而對他人作出暴力行為,父母可以專注於解釋後果及喚起其對受害者的同情心;如因想得到某物件而發脾氣,父母可以忽略他的負面行為等等。
 
其次,上述的方案可以組合使用,例如當孩子在情緒平復了,父母可以再向他解釋後果。最後,當然要視乎孩子的能力而選擇處理方案,舉例說,孩子還未會說話,你卻花上 10 分鐘向他解釋後果,似乎只會增加相方之間的衝突。
 
當父母決定了每一個情況的應對策略後,最重要的是一致性。簡單而言,一致性可以分為兩個層面:其一,同樣的行為都會使用同樣的方案,不會這次使用忽略策略,下次卻使用責罵,容易令孩子混淆。其次,每一名照顧者都會使用同樣的方案,從而加強向孩子表明「這行為是不恰當的」這個訊息。
